Would you let your child join the armed forces..admittedly joining the Army/Navy ect is seen by many as a good move, however these people are still being taught to kill.I would do everything possible, to talk Alasdair out of what we see as a disasterous decision.
well I wouldn't be happy about it, and I would try to talk him out of it, but fact is, that if my child made the decision and was totally set on doing it, I would have to support him, after all, if I talked him out of it and he later regretted it, it could only lead to resentment in the future.
I would sit Alasdair down and fill him in on what the recruiting officer failed to mention..that at the end of his torture and square bashing ect and promises of world travel. He would probably be sent off to war, where he'd be dodging bullets, insurgents and mortars,and watching as his friends are blown to bits as his commanding officer yells at him to get on with it!...all this at 19! no over my dead body
